LPP has been implementing a very successful and affective Tuberculoses treatment program in partnership with private sector donor the Ali Tareen Farms.

Similarly other areas of community development and social mobilization have been agriculture progressive practices and water saving and efficient agronomic practices shared with small farmers.

After successful implementation of sanitation projects, donors were approached to explore grant for extension of project through out the district. The Country Director World Bank for Pakistan visited LPP in March, 2003 and was impressed with the innovative approach of low cost community owned rural sanitation. Subsequently, the possibility of funding was explored for scaling up the activity, to cover a large geographical area in order to demonstrate partnership with the elected local government responsible for municipal services.

Initiating the sanitation program in urban areas LPP started its intervention in rural areas of District Lodhran which was extended to Tehsil Khanpur District Rahim Yar Khan. LPP is also working as supporting and teaching institute for Tehsil Municipal Administrations since the inception of devolution. Strong relationships between LPP and Local Govt. Institutions are one of the strength of this organization. Moreover LPP has supported dozens of national as well as international organizations to flourish the concept of low cost rural sanitation on participatory approach.

LPP is providing research opportunities for scholars of various organizations such as Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), United Nation Development Program (Plus Program), National Urban Poverty Alleviation (NUPAP-UNDP), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE), National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), Plan Pakistan, Bahawalpur Rural Development Program (BRDP), Planning Commission of Pakistan, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), District Governments (DGs), Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), Foundation for Integrated Development Action (FIDA) to keep their concentration upon methodologies and techniques of low cost rural sanitation and social mobilization mechanism of LPP.

The students of various universities and institutions are availing the research and apprenticeship opportunities. LPP is providing a vast scope for young engineers to learn the methodologies and techniques of low cost rural sanitation for their proper implementation.

LPP is focusing upon the participation of women in its sanitation agenda. Orientation to lady councilors of District, Tehsil and union councils is at the top priority of LPP, the logic behind is that it is quite mandatory to involve the women in the development process. Particularly 90% rural women are involved in the house hold activities and they are directly related to sanitation problems.

Over and above all these factors rural sanitation agenda of LPP is covering four out of eight segments of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of UNDP. The detail of linkage between LPP program and MDGs is as under:

  • MDG 1 Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • MDG 3 Promote gender equality and empower women
  • MDG 4 Reduce child mortality
  • MDG 5 Improve maternal health
  • MDG 7 Ensure environmental sustainability

In addition to demonstrate a replicable model for rural sanitation, the activity was aimed to develop a mechanism to institutionalize the innovative approach through the elected local government representatives as well as establishing an institution for training of government staff on participatory approach.

Upon satisfactory feedback from donors, in November, 2004, World Bank approved a Grant of US$ 1.1 million of Japan Social Development Fund for participatory rural sanitation in Southern Punjab. It is the first type of grant, provided to some NGO in Pakistan which will be supportive to upgrade the status of rural dwellers of district Lodhran.

Provision of sanitation facility to 100 villages of district Lodhran through JSDF grant will pave the way in improving the living standard of the rural community and the district will become a Participatory development model throughout the world.

Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP) is certified by Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) on September 28, 2010 to meet international NPO standards in the areas of Internal Governance, Financial Management and Programme Delivery.
